Okay, so I know this isn't exactly a vital DIY project, but I figured I should have something pretty to hang my wedding dress on for pictures. I keep seeing this image around the interwebs ...

... and I wahahaaaant! But to me, $25 for a hanger is a little steep, so I made my own! And I decided to make them for my bridesmaids as well.
I found these nice wood hangers at Target, at about $5 for five hangers, and I got a fine-point hot pink acrylic paint pen at Michael's for about $3. Here's how I did it:
1) Pick a font (I used "HUNTSON" bolded). Type the names you want to use, and then print it out. Remember that a 72-point font is approximately one inch tall. (You may have to print a couple times to figure out what size fits. Not all fonts are sized equally.)
2) Tape your printout to the front of the hanger. With a ballpoint pen, trace around the edge of the font. Be sure to put a little pressure on the wood. This will leave a faint outline indentation in the wood.
3) Fill in the outline with your paint pen. A fine-point pen works better for thin fonts, but if you've got a wider font, a medium-tip pen will make the work go faster. Let the paint dry and then go over it again. Done!
I love those hangers! So super cute.
ReplyDeleteOne question: How did you make it so you had to click "read more" so your bridemaids could choose not to look?
they are great! you're bridesmaids are going to love them :-) I bought the hanger from etsy you pictured but I agree the wooden ones like you made are *much* sturdier for dresses.
ReplyDeleteCute AND easy! hope you don't mind if I steal :)

ReplyDelete@Steph: not at all!
awesome idea! Love this!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! And really inexpensive. I paid for a portion of my bridesmaids' dresses and have been looking for some inexpensive things I can gift them on the day of the wedding.
