Hyenas on Holiday: On Land

We're back from our honeymoon! So of course, I have to tell you all about it. :) Imma break this down into two parts so I don't crash your computer or phone with picture overload.

The first day of our honeymoon, we grabbed our bags, flew to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and checked into our hotel, which was right on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

The view from our window.

First things first, we had to stand in the ocean! We took a long walk along the beach, barefoot in the sand. Can I just say how peaceful and relaxing this was? I think barefoot beach walks should be mandatory on like, a semi-daily basis. I need to figure out how to make this happen.

We were amazed at how beautiful the weather was! The breeze was perfect, there was hardly any humidity, it wasn't too hot and I was in looooove.

On day two we took a taxi into town to see Butterfly World. It was cramazing (crazy amazing ^^); there were butterflies EVERYWHERE, just fluttering around and being cool.

These brown ones were blue on the inside of their wings. They kept trying to land on other butterflies, so Mr. Hyena and I dubbed them the troublemaker butterflies!

We sat and watched them for a long time.

See how many you can spot in this picture (click for a bigger image)!

Apparently butterflies are into bananas, but only if they're turning brown. The dish of fresh bananas only had one lonely butterfly on it.

In another section there were tons of beautiful, bright plants, and a big section devoted to flowering vines.

We also got to see hummingbirds and these hilarious birds called lorikeets.

Some of the other visitors bought food for the lorikeets, and a lot of the birds came to stand on them and try to get to the food.

Lunch break! We had hot dogs. We're classy.

There was also bug museum where you could see various bugs and butterflies from around the world.

And of course, I had to get a picture of some bees!

After Butterfly World we were wiped out, so we decided it was a good time to chill on the beach. We got our towels and an umbrella (we are PALE, ya'll! Too much sun and we might burst into flame!), and Mr. Hyena ran into the ocean. Don't worry, I joined in too. :)

It took us a few days to figure out how to relax! We are not naturally prone to doing nothing. :)

On day three, there was a huge party going on at the beach, so we decided it was a good time to check out Las Olas Boulevard a few miles away. We hopped on the trolley and walked up and down the boulevard looking in art shops and trying to decide whether gelato or fudge would be better for spoiling our dinner. (Fudge won, and it was delicious.)

Las Olas was pretty cool, there were a lot of swankier-looking buildings, and fancy restaurants, and a LOT of real-estate agencies. Anyone want to give us a couple mil so we can move here? ;)

Neighborhoods close to the beach had their own canals for their boats!

After traipsing around, we headed back to the strip of shops and restaurants along the beach, and ate at the Oasis Cafe. Instead of sitting in chairs, the entire table was a giant swing!

Stuffed, relaxed and happy, it was time to retire for the evening. We had to get up bright and early the next day to catch a boat!

  1. Wow sounds like you've never seen lorikeets before? It's so weird to think that, since here in Australia, or at least where I am, we end up with whole trees FULL of them (like literally, all along every branch). Let me tell you, they are LOUD when they all get together like that and start chatting!!! They are pretty birds though :)

Sounds like you guys had a lovely honeymoon!! Can't wait to see more xx
